Established in 2013, REACH Out Hawaii is the 501(c)3 non-profit fundraising and support arm of the State of Hawaii’s Resources for Enrichment, Athletics, Culture and Health Initiative for Hawaii’s public middle school students in grades 6 through 8.

The Board of Directors are responsible for the oversight and strategic planning, including the development of a funding base for the R.E.A.C.H. Initiative and REACH Out Hawaii.

Dr. Apple, Professor of Chemistry and former Chancellor of the University of Hawaii at Manoa, is a scientist whose research focuses on magnetic resonance of zeolite and polymers. Apple served as the Chief Executive Officer of the University of Hawaii at Manoa from 2012 to 2014.

Dr. Apple received his Doctorate in Physical Chemistry from the University of Delaware and his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Pennsylvania State University. His post-doctoral work was conducted at Iowa State University’s Ames Laboratory. He is a published author with numerous works in a variety of journals.

Duane Kurisu is the Chairman and CEO of aio, a holding company for brands focused on Hawaii and the Pacific in the areas of media, sports and food. Media outlets under aio include ESPN radio affiliates KKEA 1420AM and KHKA 1500AM as well as magazines Honolulu, Hawaii Business, Hawaii Home + Remodeling, Hawaii, MANA and Honolulu Family. Other companies in the media group include Watermark Publishing, Upspring Media and Obun Hawaii.

Duane is a minority owner of the San Francisco Giants and owner, Director and Vice President of Hawaii Winter Baseball, Inc. He serves on the Board of Directors of Central Pacific Bank, Island Holdings, Oahu Publications, and is a former member of the University of Hawaii Board of Regents.

Duane graduated from the University of Hawaii at Manoa with a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Business Administration.

Lori Lum has been the Director of the Government Relations & Public Affairs Group at Watanabe Ing LLP for 15 years, providing strategic counseling and government affairs services for clients on public policy issues involving county councils, the State Legislature and congress.

Ms. Lum is a former hospitality industry executive and engages in extensive community relations work. She is currently Chair of the Board of Directors of the Girl Scouts of Hawaii and also serves on the boards of Child and Family Service, Hawaii’s largest non-profit human service organization and R.E.A.C.H. Out Hawaii, which provides after-school programs for public middle and intermediate school students.

From 2000 to 2006, she chaired the Board of the Hawaii Community Development Authority (HCDA), an agency created by the 1976 Hawaii State Legislature to plan for and revitalize urban areas in the State which lawmakers found to be in need of timely redevelopment. Ms. Lum also served on the Board of Directors of the Hawaii Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation International, Aloha Festivals and Visitor Aloha Society of Hawaii.

Ms. Lum is an honors graduate of the University of Hawaii.

Tyler Tokioka is the Vice President of External Affairs for Island Insurance Companies. Prior to joining Island Insurance, Tyler was Assistant to the General Manager at Atlas Insurance Agency. His experience includes: National Mortgage and Finance Company, Daiwa Securities of America and E.F. Hutton.

Tyler earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington, a Masters degree in Business Administration from New York University Stern School of Business and is a graduate of Punahou High School.

Active in numerous community organizations, Tyler serves on the boards of National Mortgage and Finance Company, Olelo Community Media, Blood Bank of Hawaii, Honolulu Japanese Chamber of Commerce, the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii and Ahahui Koa Anuenue, the non-profit fundraising arm of the University of Hawaii at Manoa Athletics Department.

Shan S. Tsutsui is the Lieutenant Governor of the State of Hawaii.

A former small business owner and financial advisor, Lieutenant Governor Tsutsui was first elected to the Hawaii State Senate in 2002. Selected by his colleagues, Tsutsui served as President of the Senate from 2010 to 2012. As Senate President, Tsutsui succeeded to the Office of the Lieutenant Governor on December 27, 2012 upon the resignation of then Lieutenant Governor Brian Schatz. He was elected Lieutenant Governor on November 4, 2014 and sworn in on December 1, 2014.

He is a member of the Committee on State Strategies on International Affairs and State Strategies on Energy for the National Lieutenant Governor’s Association, as well as Chair of the Democratic Lieutenant Governors Association.

A graduate of Maui High School, he went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

Lieutenant Governor Tsutsui and his wife, Lyndelle, are the proud parents of 3 daughters, Mikayla, Kaylee, and Kenna.

Jayson Watts currently serves as Senior Advisor to the Lieutenant Governor of Hawaii and Executive Director and Secretary of REACH Out Hawaii.

In directing the State’s R.E.A.C.H. Initiative and REACH Out Hawaii, Jayson oversees the overall management of the initiative and helps to lead the initiative’s effort to foster public-private partnerships between State agencies, the private sector and philanthropic institutions.

A graduate of Henry Perrine Baldwin High School and the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Jayson brings over a decade of experience advancing programs and policies, and building partnerships both inside and outside of government.  Prior to joining the Lieutenant Governor’s office in 2014, Jayson was appointed Assistant Sergeant at Arms of the Hawaii State Senate by Senate President Colleen Hanabusa in 2007 and served in that capacity until 2014. He also served as Legislative Director to the Hawaii Senate Majority Caucus Leader from 2003 to 2007, and as a Congressional Intern and Staff Assistant in the Washington, D.C. and Honolulu offices of the late U.S. Representative Patsy T. Mink from 2000 to 2002.  He is originally from Wailuku, Maui and resides in Honolulu, Oahu.

Gregg Fujimoto is the President of Oceanic Time Warner Cable. A graduate of the University of California at Berkeley, he joined Time Warner Cable as Senior Vice President, Brand Strategy and Marketing Communications for Residential Services. In addition, Gregg led Time Warner Cable’s rapidly growing digital sales channel. Prior to joining TWC, Gregg spent two decades in the advertising industry.

Gregg’s mission in Hawaii is simple – build and enhance Oceanic’s tradition of providing customers with the best service and with utmost of integrity.

Coming from a fourth generation local family, Gregg is “thrilled to be returning home”, and looks to build new relationships and give back to the community that he grew up with.
